3 Myths about Video Editing

These might be why you're stuck

Learning video editing and making money with it can be tough.

Especially when you’re stuck in beginner’s hell.

You’ll face tons of self-doubt that’ll slow down your learning curve.

I learned video editing and landed my first paying client in just 60 days, and I can tell you that most of your self-doubt is bullshit.

It’s a myth created by someone who doesn’t want to see you succeed or someone who gave up on learning video editing.

Today, I’m here to smash 3 myths that might be holding you back from learning video editing and making a living from it.

So, let’s debunk these myths:

Only Hollywood Editors Make Money

This is the biggest bullshit I hear all the time.

You don’t need to be a Hollywood editor.

The Internet has opened up way more opportunities than you can imagine.

Today, we don’t just watch movies and web series — we’re glued to YouTube, TikTok, Reels, and tons of other video platforms.

Think about how many movies you watched this week — probably one or two.

Now, think about how many YouTube videos you watched — you probably can’t even remember.

Exactly — we spend most of our lives on these video platforms.

There’s a huge demand gap for editors.

You can edit:

  • VSLs

  • Reels

  • UGC Ads

  • Interviews

  • YouTube videos

And a bunch of other things you’ll discover as you network in this field.

2. You Need an Expensive PC

Hell no.

Sure, it’s nice to have, but it’s not a must-have to start.

Many great editors began with 4GB RAM laptops.

With an HDD drive.

And if you don’t even have a laptop, start with your phone.

I’ve got friends who made it with just a phone.

Fuck, I started with a phone too.

The first rule of business: use what you’ve got.

As you make progress and earn money, you can reinvest it to level up faster.

But if you keep saying, “I don’t have an expensive PC, so I can’t be an editor” — you’re just fooling yourself.

You don’t lack resources. You lack resourcefulness.

  1. You Need to Be an Expert

This myth kept me from learning video editing for months.

For ages, I thought I’d only make money if I became an expert.

But here’s the truth: You don’t need to be an expert.

You don’t need to be an expert to get your first client.

You don’t need to be an expert to start charging money.

You don’t need to be an expert to make money with editing.

Here’s the thing:

You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.

~ Zig Ziglar

You just need to be skilled enough to offer value to your clients.

It can be:

  • Offering creative input on videos

  • Helping clients save time on editing

  • Having a unique skill compared to others

I’ve made thousands of dollars just by cutting basic clips.

As you learn and grow, you’ll find people who need your services, and opportunities will open up.

If you want to know how I learned to edit videos, got my first clients, and became a full-time video editor.

I’m building the 30 Days to $1000 Editor Roadmap to help you master this skill, build a portfolio, and attract clients.

It’s currently in the pre-launch phase.

Hope this helps,
