5 Steps to Full Time Video Editor

The exact plan which I used to get my first client within 14 days.

I started my video editing last year and till then I have made five figures doing it but it wasn’t the same always.

Last year, I was struggling to make $300/month consistently from freelance thumbnail designing.

Now I consistently make thousands of dollars every month.

Here are 5 steps you can take to do the same:

1. Clear basics

No matter what type of video you edit, you need to learn the basics.

Pick an editing software, and watch a walkthrough video.

Once you get familiar with it, learn basic editing.

Learn how to add cuts, import B-rolls and add music or text.

Get the grasp of a beginner video editor.

2. Learn a style

You need to learn a style.

If you become a generic person, no one will want to hire you.

Pick a type of video and learn how it gets edited.

Reverse engineer the editing process and try it yourself.

That’s how you master an editing style.

by practicing, not watching.

3. Build a portfolio

To get money in your account, you need to show that you can edit like the client wants.

Create a few videos around your style — make sure they target your clients.

Build a landing page or a website where you can show your videos and get meetings.

Don’t upload on a Gdrive and call it a portfolio.

4. Leverage Twitter (X)

You need to get eyes on your work.

If no one knows what you do, who will buy?

We are in the attention economy, No Eyeballs = No Money.

Share your works, and build a presence on Twitter (X)

5. Do long-term business

You don’t want your clients to pay you once and then leave you.

That’s a race to the bottom and you will always hussle for new clients.

You have to retain them for longer.

The more a client pays you, the fewer clients you need every month.

The longer a client stays with you, the fewer new clients you have to find.
